Goldie’s Bar & Yard is a modern honky-tonk with Southern-inspired eats, bold cocktails, and a dance floor that means business.

There's a new kind of energy on Hurstmere Road. Goldie's Bar & Yard opened its doors last Friday, and if the first weekend was anything to go by, the North Shore has been waiting for this one.
Part Wild West, part country oasis and entirely its own thing - Goldie's is a modern honky-tonk that doesn't take itself too seriously, but takes its food, drinks, and good times very seriously indeed. The kind of place where a long lunch in the sun drifts into golden hour without noticing, and by the time the live music kicks in, you're not going anywhere.
Step into The Yard, a sun-drenched courtyard made for slow afternoons. Sip tequila cocktails, share light bites, and toast to golden hours with friends while the day drifts by.
As the sun sets over the sea, head inside to The Bar. Belt out your favourite country ballads, grab a crisp jug of beer, and line dance under the glittery glow of the disco ball. Every night here ends a little wilder than it started.
The cocktail list is bold, playful, and unapologetically fun. The Watermelon Mezcalita (reposado tequila, mezcal, watermelon, lime, jalapeño) and the Cowboy Cold Brew with Thunderdonk Salted Caramel Whisky, cold brew, and cinnamon foam are early favourites. The taps are pouring Southern Peach Tea with vodka and peach, Pink Porch Lemonade with gin and homestyle pink lemonade, plus Goldie's own APA and Hazy Pale Ale brewed exclusively by Tuatara - good times on tap, in every sense.
The kitchen leans into bold, unpretentious flavours. Start with Texan Toast with jalapeño honey butter, or burrata with burst cherry tomatoes. For the table, the Honky Tonk Hammer - a slow-roasted beef shin that falls off the bone - is the move. Order it ahead, bring people, make a moment of it. And for dessert, the Bourbon Pecan Pie with caramel cream cheese frosting is exactly as good as it sounds.
Goldie's is open now at 138 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna - Wednesday to Sunday, 11:30 am to late.
