This November we're offering 20% extra on every Star Group gift card, so $100 becomes $120 to spend. Keep it or give it away. Either way, that extra $20 is dessert or the next round.
Getting Christmas presents sorted early? Done. Planning a summer of long lunches and Friday drinks? Also done. The cards work at 50+ of our bars, pubs and restaurants across Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton and Tauranga, so whether it's for you or someone else, there's somewhere worth spending it.
Buy any gift card from Monday 9 November through to Cyber Monday, 30 November, and we load an extra 20% onto it. That's it.
Cards go from $30 up to $500. Grab one for your sister, one for the boss and one for yourself. Nobody has to know.
This is the easiest maths you'll do all year. If you're heading out over summer anyway, buy a card now and every $100 you'd spend turns into $120.
Use it on the work Christmas drinks. The long lunch after your last day before the break. Or a random Tuesday when you can't face cooking. It all counts, and the extra 20% means the next round's already covered.
Christmas shopping gets hard when the people on your list already have everything. A gift card gets around that. They pick the venue, the night and who they bring, and you still get credit for a great present.
Buying for the team? With the bonus, ten $50 cards gets your crew $100 of free food and drink on top. Your Christmas budget goes 20% further without you lifting a finger.
Digital cards go straight to their inbox, which makes them a lifesaver for Secret Santa and anyone you forgot about until the 23rd.
Your card or theirs, here are a few of our favourites to start with.
Rosie's is loud, colourful and pours a very good marg. Leave room for the Margarita Cheesecake: tequila raspberry gel, lemon lime sorbet and popping candy on top. It shouldn't work. It does.
Start with the Cheeseburger Wontons (yes, really) and the sriracha honey fried chicken. Then order the Kong Style Roast Duck with pancakes, pickled veg, hoisin and bbq chilli jam, and share it around the table. Or don't.
Getting three generations to agree on dinner is tough. Goode Brothers makes it easy: chicken parmi and handmade pasta for the grown-ups, an ice cream sundae with marshmallows and hundreds and thousands for the kids. Find them at Sylvia Park, Botany, NorthWest, New Lynn and Bethlehem.
Right on Viaduct Harbour, The Lula Inn does Pacific-inspired food and cocktails with the water on your doorstep. Good for date night. Even better for a long catch-up that rolls into a late one.
Goldie's is country through and through. Cold beer, good tunes and a Bourbon Pecan Pie served with chocolate mud cake ice cream. Made for anyone who owns a pair of boots and isn't afraid to wear them (you included).
And that's barely scratching the surface. Wellington's got Southern Cross, Hamilton's got The Roaming Giant, and there are dozens more in between. See every venue here.
